Hi and welcome to Breastfeeding know How. My name is Michelle Cleary and I am a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Registered General Nurse, Registered Midwife, and Public Health Nurse. I am a trained, certified and insured Lactation Consultant. I have completed extensive training and education and undergo continuous professional development to stay up to date with current research and development in the field of lactation. I can help you identify the areas affecting your breastfeeding. I have been working with breastfeeding families since 2003 providing practical help and advice.
Breastfeeding can be a challenging time and helping a mother to achieve the skill of successfully breastfeeding her baby is my passion. It is such a privilege to be part of that amazing journey. While working in the Coombe Women's and Infant's University Hospital I gained invaluable experience in caring for preterm babies, cleft lip/palate and multiple births etc. With a gentle and practical approach, I pass on my experience, whilst remaining flexible to recognize that there is more than one way to resolve a problem.
With many years’ experience in caring for mothers and babies. I have heard a great deal of conflicting advice given to new parents, inevitably causing confusion and, sadly some mum's to give up breastfeeding. I have extensive personal and professional experience of tongue tie and the complications it poses on breastfeeding. I can assess all type of tongue tie in babies and send referrals to the relevant medical practitioners for a procedure if required.
I also provide lactation articles and answer breastfeeding questions to various publications and parenting websites, regularly contributing to Pregnancy and Parenting, Maternity and Infant magazine and Easy Parenting to name but a few.
