Lactation Consultations
How breastfeeding goes in the early days can greatly influence your ability and desire to continue. Research has shown that mothers who access support of a lactation consultant will breastfeed for longer. Lactation consultations are available in the privacy and comfort of your own home or my clinic. Consultations take on average 1-1.5 hours. Fees for consultations vary according to distance and time. I always inform you of the fee prior to my visit. I generally try to time a visit around a breastfeed so I can assess your baby's latch, position and feeding behaviours. At the end of the visit I will evaluate the situation and a plan of action will be put in place based on your breastfeeding goals. I am always available for follow up phone calls or email support afterwards.
I also do private ante natal breastfeeding consultations in the home. This is particularly helpful for mums who have had a difficult experience with breastfeeding or may have a history of preterm deliveries or other medical conditions etc.
